Layi Taiwo Speaks on Succession Crisis, Party Structure, Rail Revival and Development in Ogun West |Omohglobalnews

High Chief Olayiwola Taiwo has attributed his renewed political involvement to what he described as a growing succession crisis and the weakening of party structures caused by personal interests overriding collective goals.

Speaking during a media chat with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Ogun West Independent Chapel in Ota, Taiwo said the need to protect and strengthen the party structure informed his decision to step in once again.

According to him, efforts to build a sustainable political system had been undermined by individuals he mentored, who later deviated from the original vision and began pursuing personal ambitions at the expense of the party.

He noted that the absence of continuity and a clear succession plan forced him to return and restore order, emphasizing that aside from himself, there had been little commitment to preserving the structure he helped build.

On development, Taiwo highlighted ongoing efforts to boost infrastructure in Ogun West, noting that significant progress has been driven by key stakeholders, including Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

He recalled the distribution of 65 transformers to communities in Ota, facilitated during his tenure in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, as part of efforts to improve electricity supply in the area.

Chief Taiwo also pledged to revive the glory of railway transportation as a strategic tool for economic growth in Ogun West. He specifically referenced the historic Idogo rail system, which, according to him, once provided an organized framework for farmers to transport their produce from rural communities to urban markets.

He explained that the system enabled the systematic sale of farm produce at various stations along the route before reaching its final destination in Oyingbo, thereby boosting local commerce and reducing post-harvest losses.

The High Chief assured that he would modernise and fine-tune the model to meet present-day realities, leveraging technology and improved logistics to enhance agricultural distribution and rural-urban connectivity.

In addition, he stressed that true representation goes beyond seasonal empowerment programmes, insisting that elected officials must focus on securing the rightful benefits and resources due to their constituents while in office.

“Representation is about ensuring your people get what rightfully belongs to them by all means. Empowerment should not be limited to election periods; it is about delivering on the mandate and responsibility of office,” he said.
