FOUR-YEAR-OLD BOY, HIS MOTHER AND TWELVE OTHERS NARROWLY ESCAPE DEATH IN A GRUESOME ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AT COASTER ROAD, OKUN AJAH, LAGOS

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) solemnly announces the occurrence of a lone grievous road traffic accident along Coaster Road, opposite Lafiaji inward Okun Ajah, involving a fully laden Mazda commercial bus AKD 509 XL.

The ill-starred vehicle overturned with violent force and culminating in a harrowing crash of considerable magnitude. In circumstances that can only be described as divinely fortuitous, a four-year-old boy and twelve other occupants including his mother survived what might otherwise have culminated in multiple fatalities.

The vehicle destabilised abruptly before somersaulting and coming to rest on its side, entrapping passengers amid the twisted wreckage and leaving them visibly traumatised. The ferocity of the impact reverberated across the corridor, attracting immediate attention from bystanders and emergency responders.

Personnel of LASTMA arrived at the scene with remarkable alacrity and operational precision.

Exhibiting commendable professionalism and humanitarian concern, officers promptly extricated the injured from the wreckage and coordinated urgent medical evacuation. The four-year-old child, his mother and two additional casualties were expeditiously conveyed to the Mother & Child Hospital at Abraham Adesanya along Ogombo Road for immediate clinical attention. Other injured passengers were transported to proximate healthcare facilities by compassionate Good Samaritans who rendered invaluable assistance in the critical moments following the crash.

While the definitive cause of the accident could not be ascertained, the matter has been formally transferred to the Police Division at Abraham Adesanya for comprehensive inquiry and requisite legal procedures.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki conveyed profound sympathy to the victims and their families, extending earnest wishes for their prompt and complete recuperation.

He sternly admonished motorists particularly operators of commercial vehicles against the perils of reckless and cavalier driving.

He emphasised that no journey, irrespective of urgency, warrants the imperilment of human life, underscoring that scrupulous adherence to statutory speed limits and extant traffic regulations is not merely a legal requirement but a moral imperative.

LASTMA once again implores all motorists to exercise heightened vigilance, uphold vehicular discipline and accord primacy to the sanctity of human life at all times.
