Glo Foundation Celebrates Secondary School Girls on International Day of the Girl Child |Omohglobalnews

The Glo Foundation, the social empowerment arm of telecommunications giant Globacom, on Friday hosted hundreds of female secondary school students across Nigeria to mark the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child.

To commemorate the day, the Foundation organized a symbolic walk and a movie outing for the enthusiastic participants, aimed at inspiring confidence, ambition, and leadership among young girls.

In Lagos, 100 students selected from five secondary schools — Queens College, Yaba; Herbert Macaulay Girls Senior High School, Yaba; Kuramo Senior College, Victoria Island; Victoria Island Secondary School; and Vivian Fowler Memorial College, Oregun, Ikeja — were received at Globacom’s corporate headquarters, Mike Adenuga Towers, Victoria Island.

The students had an interactive mentorship session with senior female executives of the company, who encouraged them to dream big, pursue excellence, and build the resilience needed to thrive in their chosen careers.

Welcoming the girls, Globacom’s Director of Strategy and Board Affairs, Mrs. Mojisola Ashieru-Sweet, urged them to embrace confidence and self-belief, noting that “success comes to those who are determined and consistent in their efforts.”

Similarly, the company’s Head of Human Resources, Mrs. Jumoke Aduwo, emphasized the importance of hard work, diligence, and strong moral character, describing them as essential qualities for navigating life’s challenges.

The students also embarked on a guided tour from Mike Adenuga Towers to the Customer Care and Information Systems departments on Ahmadu Bello Way, where they were introduced to key aspects of Globacom’s telecommunications operations.

The Lagos event concluded with a movie session at Silverbird Cinemas, where the girls watched The Serpent’s Gift, a Nollywood feature starring Linda Ejiofor and radio presenter-actor Chico Aligwejwe.

The empowerment initiative also held simultaneously in Abuja, Kaduna, Owerri, Port Harcourt, and Benin City. In each city, selected students visited Glo offices for mentorship sessions before proceeding to Silverbird Cinemas to watch The Serpent’s Gift.

After the screening, participants engaged in group discussions on the movie’s themes, helping them develop public speaking and critical thinking skills.

Through this initiative, the Glo Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting girl-child education and empowerment across Nigeria.
