Tension in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government has eased following the decision of the Legislative Council to lift the suspension placed on Chairman Alhaji Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, barely 24 hours after it was announced.
The suspension, issued on October 30, 2025, stemmed from allegations that the Chairman failed to submit income and expenditure reports despite repeated requests. However, the Chairman has now fulfilled the council’s key demand by presenting the financial report, paving the way for a resolution.
Senior leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the local government intervened swiftly, convening a reconciliatory meeting that led to the restoration of peace between the council's Executive and Legislative arms.
The intervention team was led by Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and Hon. Tunji Akinosi, Member representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency. Other key figures involved included Hon. Sessan Fagbayi (Commissioner for Culture & Tourism), Chief Aiyedogbon, Hon. Lai Taiwo, Hon. Kazeem Salako, and APC Chairman Hon. Jimoh Akeran.
Leader of the House, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, ACA, confirmed that the Chairman met the primary condition set by the lawmakers and emphasized that the decision to reverse the suspension was taken in the interest of peace and governance.
> “This step is to ensure stability and continued progress in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government,” he said. “With renewed cooperation, we can better serve our people and strengthen grassroots governance.”
Public reaction also played a role, as many residents criticized the suspension as hasty and politically motivated. Although the decision has now been rescinded, some constituents believe the episode has raised questions about the council’s judgment.
With the matter resolved, Chairman Alhaji Lawal Adewale Wasiu resumes office with a renewed focus on transparency and service delivery. Stakeholders and residents alike are optimistic that both arms of the local government will work harmoniously to drive development and uphold democratic values.
