IGBESA, OGUN STATE – Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo has openly criticised all past and current members representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency since 1999, accusing them of failing to prioritize the true interests and development of their constituents. She made this known during a courtesy visit by the Ogun West chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by Comrade Kayode Taiwo, at her ancestral home in Igbesa on Sunday.
Engr. Agemo-Okuboyejo, a seasoned engineer and consultant, declared her intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections. She emphasized that her foray into politics is driven by a desire to replicate her professional problem-solving skills in governance and bring meaningful development to Ado-Odo/Ota.
"Ado-Odo/Ota is a diverse constituency with unique challenges in each area. However, our representatives have continued to apply a one-size-fits-all approach, resulting in neglect and underdevelopment across the board," she said. "The state of our road network is deplorable, making the entire constituency appear as though it's under siege."
She further highlighted several abandoned projects and underutilised assets within the constituency, despite its industrial significance. "Ado-Odo/Ota is one of Nigeria's largest industrial hubs, yet the level of infrastructure and development does not reflect this. The 8,000-hectare farm settlement project initiated by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo has been left in ruins, and the Technical College in Igbesa remains non-functional, failing to supply skilled labour to nearby industries," she lamented.
Agemo-Okuboyejo also expressed disappointment at the abandonment of agricultural potential in the region, noting that Awori land – particularly Ayobo – played a historic role in the prosperity of Yoruba land through cocoa farming.
Citing a saying by her late father, "Wherever you are, let your presence be felt positively," she said this principle guides her decision to seek elective office. With an impressive academic background and professional experience in engineering, oil and gas, and consultancy, she vowed to channel her expertise into improving the lives of her constituents.
She concluded by advocating for greater female participation in politics, stating that inclusive governance would benefit not just Ado-Odo/Ota, but Ogun State and Nigeria at large. She reaffirmed her total commitment to ensuring that her constituency receives the attention and resources it rightly deserves.
