Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Lawal Wasiu, has vowed to take drastic measures against trucks plying forbidden roads and causing damage to infrastructure in the area. Speaking at a stakeholders' meeting organized by TRACE, in collaboration with Ado-Odo/Ota, Alhaji Lawal Wasiu emphasized the need for trucks to adhere to weight limits, citing the example of Shell Company's significant investment in the area, which requires collective effort to maintain and sustain.
TRACE Area 4 Commander, Ajibade Adekunle, noted that some trucks carry excessive loads, such as 45 tonnes, equivalent to 900 bags of cement, and 60 tonnes, equivalent to 1200 bags of cement. He warned that the era of ignoring traffic rules is over, and every resident in Ogun State must comply with traffic regulations.
The Unit Commander, Road Safety Ota, Cdr. Wasiu Ogunmefun, and the Divisional Police Officer, Obasanjo, CSP Earnest Obideyi reiterated that compliance with traffic rules is mandatory, and every organization must provide parking facilities. They stressed that enforcement is everyone's responsibility.
The Divisional Police Officer, Onipanu, CSP Earnest Obideyi, also emphasized the importance of cooperation in maintaining law and order in the area. The External Relations Department's representative, Shell, Dr. Adeshola Afariogun, gave a detailed background on the recently dualized Oju-ore-Ilogbo road, urging residents to be vigilant and safeguard the road.
Former Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Alhaji Waheed Kadril, emphasized the need to reclassify Ilogbo road to match the standards of Idiroko road, stressing that compliance with traffic regulations should precede enforcement measures. He appealed to companies and residents in the area to adopt a new mindset towards Ilogbo road, recognizing the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining the infrastructure.
