TWO DIE, TWO SUSTAIN SERIOUS INJURIES IN ADEKUNLE–IYANA OWORO ROAD CRASH LASTMA coordinates rescue operations, evacuates victims

LAGOS, Nigeria — Two persons have died, while two others sustained serious injuries in a fatal road accident involving a Suzuki commercial bus and a pickup van along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the collision involved a Suzuki commercial bus with registration number KTU 333 YF and a pickup van.

Following the incident, LASTMA operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene to coordinate rescue operations, secure the accident site and facilitate the evacuation of the victims.

The two deceased victims were evacuated by LASTMA personnel and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), popularly known as SHEMU, while the two injured survivors, a male and a female, were rushed to the General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention.

LASTMA also handed over the accidented vehicles and the driver of the Suzuki bus to officers of the Yaba Police Division, who provided security and maintained order at the scene until the rescue and recovery operations were completed.

The Authority said its intervention demonstrated its commitment to prompt emergency response, effective traffic incident management and inter-agency collaboration to safeguard lives on Lagos roads.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the loss of lives as deeply distressing.

He also sympathised with the bereaved families and wished the injured victims a speedy and complete recovery.

Bakare-Oki reiterated the need for motorists to exercise greater vigilance, comply strictly with traffic regulations and observe prescribed speed limits to prevent avoidable road accidents.

He stressed that responsible driving, sustained concentration and caution on the road remained essential to reducing road traffic collisions and their devastating consequences.

The LASTMA boss urged motorists to maintain safe following distances, avoid reckless manoeuvres and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy at all times.

He further called on all road users to prioritise safety and demonstrate due regard for human life while navigating the state's road network.
