Four Die, 13 Critically Injured in Truck-Bus Collision on Epe Bridge

By Ọmọsọla Olumide

Four people, including a commercial bus driver, have died, while 13 passengers sustained critical injuries in a collision involving a truck and a commercial bus on Alaro City Bridge, inward T-Junction, Epe, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the fatal accident occurred when a truck reportedly rammed into a fully loaded commercial bus while crossing the single-lane bridge, leaving several occupants trapped in the wreckage.

The collision claimed four lives, while 13 other passengers sustained critical injuries. The truck driver also suffered severe injuries, reportedly losing both legs, which became trapped in the wreckage.

LASTMA operatives, working alongside personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), coordinated rescue efforts and the evacuation of the deceased victims. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the injured passengers to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.

Personnel of the Epe Police Division provided security at the scene and supported the rescue operation.

Reacting to the tragedy, LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy and full recovery.

He stressed the need for motorists to exercise caution, drive responsibly and comply with traffic regulations, particularly when navigating bridges, narrow roads and other constricted sections of the highway.

Following the crash, LASTMA officials implemented traffic management measures along the affected corridor to ease congestion, regulate vehicular movement and restore normal traffic flow.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, the protection of lives and effective collaboration with emergency response agencies in managing road accidents.

LASTMA also urged motorists to observe speed limits, maintain safe following distances and avoid dangerous driving manoeuvres, warning that reckless driving on bridges and narrow roadways could result in devastating consequences.
