They received ₦350,000, ₦500,000, and ₦150,000, respectively, for their performances.
Three days of music, competition and live entertainment put student performers in the spotlight in Abeokuta.
The search for Nigeria’s next music stars took another turn in Abeokuta as Fadina Segun Samson, known by his stage name SEGZY, won the BIGI Music Competition at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), during Soundcity OnTour 2026.
SEGZY finished ahead of Olawumi David, known as Dayvo, who emerged first runner-up, and Adebayo Moyinoluwa, known as Sourde, who placed third. The competition carried a reported ₦1 million prize pool, adding a financial reward to the opportunity for emerging artistes to showcase their music and gain wider recognition.
Held from October 7 to 9, the FUNAAB stop brought together music, dance, games and audience engagement over three days, culminating in a concert that put student talent and campus entertainment at the centre of the experience. BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, brands of Rite Foods Limited, sponsor the tour.
The regional finals also produced a strong showing from emerging artistes. Taiwo Oladapo Opeyemi, known as T.Boss, of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), clinched first place, while SEGZY of FUNAAB finished second. Alabi David, known as The Vyine, of the University of Ibadan, placed third.
The results highlight the depth of musical talent emerging from Nigerian campuses and the opportunities created when young performers are given a platform to compete, connect with audiences and take their ambitions beyond the classroom.
For Biola Aransiola, Brand Manager, BIGI, the competition reflects the importance of creating opportunities for young people to express themselves and take their talents further.
“There is no shortage of talent on Nigerian campuses. What matters is creating platforms where young artistes can be heard, recognised and encouraged to go further. Seeing them step up and earn their moment in the spotlight is what makes this initiative worthwhile,” Aransiola said.
The FUNAAB activation is part of Soundcity OnTour 2026 sponsored by Rite Foods’ Bigi and Fearless Energy Drink, a nationwide campus entertainment and talent discovery initiative expanding to 20 institutions following its debut across 10 campuses in 2023. The tour combines music competitions, dance challenges, interactive experiences and live concerts, bringing brands and young audiences together through entertainment.
For Rite Foods Limited, the Nigerian food and beverage company behind BIGI Carbonated Soft Drinks, Fearless Energy Drink, BIGI Premium Drinking Water, Sosa Fruit Drink, a range of sausage products, and the recently launched LIDA malt, the platform offers an opportunity to connect with young Nigerians while supporting the creativity shaping contemporary music and youth culture.
With the FUNAAB winners crowned and new talents making their mark, the excitement continues as Soundcity OnTour heads to Kwara State University, where another set of emerging artistes will have the opportunity to showcase their talent and take the next step towards their musical ambitions.
