The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued three victims trapped in a multiple-vehicle accident along the LASU–Isheri Road at Iyana School, inward Igando, while restoring the free flow of traffic after the incident.
According to LASTMA, the crash involved a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles. Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into the other vehicles.
Officials of the traffic management agency, who were on routine patrol in the area, responded swiftly by activating emergency response procedures. Their prompt intervention helped rescue the trapped victims, prevent further collisions and restore normal traffic movement along the busy corridor.
Working alongside officers of the Iba Police Division, LASTMA coordinated the evacuation of the damaged vehicles and cleared the accident scene to prevent prolonged traffic congestion and reduce the risk of secondary crashes.
Three occupants—one man and two women—sustained varying degrees of serious fractures in the accident. They were successfully rescued from the wreckage by LASTMA officials and other emergency responders before being rushed to El-Shaddai Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
The vehicles involved in the collision included a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota with registration number FGC 80 XE, and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP.
LASTMA officers remained at the scene throughout the rescue and evacuation operation, managing traffic and ensuring the complete restoration of normal vehicular movement.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the professionalism, courage and swift response of the agency's emergency personnel.
He also advised motorists, particularly operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, to carry out thorough mechanical inspections before embarking on any journey, with special attention to the condition and efficiency of their braking systems.
According to Bakare-Oki, routine preventive maintenance of critical vehicle components is essential in reducing avoidable road crashes and improving road safety across Lagos State.
He further urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, drive cautiously and report road emergencies through LASTMA's toll-free emergency short code 3367 to enable prompt response by the agency.
