Viewers will get an exclusive look into the lives and careers of Netflix's The Polygamist stars, Gugu Gumede and S'Dumo Mtshali, as they feature this week on Cable News Network International's African Voices, sponsored by digital telecommunications company, Globacom.
Featured in the 22-episode series, the pair portray characters at the heart of a gripping story about a cheating husband whose actions unknowingly drag his family into the complexities of polygamy.
Against the backdrop of what was once a picture-perfect marriage, the series explores betrayal, deception and a chain of events that gradually destroys the peace of a once happy family.
During the 30-minute programme recorded in Johannesburg, show anchor Larry Madowo sits down with the make-believe couple as they speak about their personal journeys and the realities of working in the film industry. They discuss dealing with fame, avoiding typecasting and their advocacy for better protections for actors.
Recognised for her portrayal of Joyce Gomora in the telenovela, Gumede is a 34-year-old South African actress who studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles.
Beyond her role in The Polygamist, Gumede has also starred as Mandisa in Generations, one of South Africa's most successful television shows, as well as Mamlambo, a prophetess in Uzalo, South Africa's most viewed television show.
Meanwhile, Mtshali, 43, who played Jonasi Gomora, is a South African actor who rose to prominence after entering and winning the SABC1 reality competition Class Act in 2010. That same year, he secured his first leading role in the SABC1 drama series Intersexions.
Additionally, he has featured in Inside Story (2011), Avenged (2013), iNumber Number: Jozi Gold (2023), Back of the Moon, Inside Story (2011) and The 4 of us (2025), among several other productions.
Audiences can catch the special double cast episode on Saturday at 8 a.m. on DSTV Channel 401, with a repeat at 11 a.m. the same day. Further broadcasts will air on Sunday at 3.30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday at 3 a.m. and 5.45 p.m., and Tuesday at 5.45 p.m. The following week, viewers can watch it again on Saturday at 7.30 a.m. and 11 a.m., Sunday at 3.30 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Monday at 3 a.m.
