Residents of the Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba communities in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed relief following the commencement of the rehabilitation of the long-abandoned Obasanjo-Eledi-Ijagba Road by the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA.
The road, which serves as a major link between the three communities, had for several years remained in a deplorable condition, making movement difficult for motorists, commuters, traders and residents. The situation became particularly severe during the rainy season due to poor drainage and persistent flooding, rendering sections of the road almost impassable.
Concerned by the worsening condition of the road, residents and community leaders recently appealed to the council chairman to urgently intervene and restore the road to a motorable condition.
Responding to the complaints, Hon. Lawal Adewale personally visited the area to assess the extent of the damage before approving immediate rehabilitation works aimed at addressing the challenges facing the communities.
The rehabilitation project is being carried out by the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Department of Works and Housing under the supervision of Engr. Oladeinde Dapo. The ongoing works include excavation and construction of roadside drainage channels, desilting of blocked gutters, filling and grading of failed portions of the road, as well as the rehabilitation of the entire road corridor.
Speaking on the project, Hon. Lawal Adewale reiterated that his administration remains committed to responsive, inclusive and people-centred governance, stressing that no community in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government would be neglected in his infrastructure development agenda.
"Our people in Obasanjo, Eledi and Ijagba cried out and we listened. As a government that is close to the grassroots, we have a duty to respond swiftly to the yearnings of our people. Good roads and effective drainage are not privileges; they are essential for economic growth, ease of movement and the well-being of our citizens," the chairman said.
He assured residents that the rehabilitation would be executed according to standard and completed within the shortest possible time. He also appealed to members of the affected communities to cooperate with workers on site and support the sustainability of the project by keeping the drainage channels free from refuse and other blockages.
Residents and community leaders who spoke on the development commended the chairman for responding promptly to their plight, describing him as a responsive leader who has continued to demonstrate commitment to improving the welfare of the people through impactful infrastructure projects.
Meanwhile, the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government is also executing a major drainage project in the Sango area following the successful construction of a box culvert on Plaza Road linking Maltina. The project is designed to improve stormwater management, reduce perennial flooding and protect lives and property, further underscoring the administration's commitment to sustainable infrastructure development across the local government area.
