The National Golden Grand Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuelking, KOF, has called for stronger collaboration between citizens and security agencies as a critical step toward addressing emerging security threats across Nigeria.
Emmanuelking made the call on Wednesday during a high-level Security Summit held in Remoland, Ogun State, where he hosted the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Olubode Ojajuni, alongside the leadership of the PCRC, traditional rulers, heads of security agencies, community leaders and other key stakeholders.
The summit served as an interactive platform for participants to examine prevailing security challenges and explore practical strategies for strengthening the partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve.
In his keynote address, Emmanuelking stressed that security should not be seen as the sole responsibility of the police, insisting that every Nigerian has a vital role to play in protecting lives and property.
According to him, effective collaboration between the public and security agencies remains the most potent weapon against crimes such as kidnapping, cultism, ritual killings, illegal arms trafficking and cybercrime.
"Security is far too important to be left to the Police alone. Every citizen has a role to play in safeguarding our communities. This is the vision upon which the PCRC was founded," he said.
He described the PCRC slogan, "PCRC... Peace to the Nation," as a rallying call for collective action, urging Nigerians to embrace intelligence sharing, community policing and mutual trust in the fight against crime.
The National Golden Grand Patron also applauded the Inspector-General of Police for promoting community policing across the country and commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Olubode Ojajuni, for his professionalism and commitment to engaging communities in tackling security challenges.
The summit featured extensive discussions involving traditional rulers, security experts, community leaders and senior police officers on intelligence gathering, crime prevention and measures to strengthen public confidence in law enforcement.
Participants unanimously agreed that sustained cooperation among the Nigeria Police Force, the PCRC, traditional institutions, other security agencies and members of the public is essential to preserving peace and improving security across Ogun State and Nigeria.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to deepen collaboration, enhance intelligence sharing and build safer communities through effective community policing initiatives.
