BREAKING NEWS: APC Picks Yayi as Consensus Governorship Candidate for 2027 in Ogun |Omohglobalnews

Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State.

The announcement was made by Governor Dapo Abiodun, leader of the party in the state, during the APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Iyana Mortuary, Abeokuta. He said the decision was aimed at presenting a strong, unified candidate while ending the long-standing absence of a governor from Ogun West Senatorial District since the state’s creation.
Abiodun explained that the meeting was convened to secure the support of key stakeholders, noting that he had earlier engaged other aspirants who agreed to back the party’s consensus choice.
“Today, those I considered as front-runners in Ogun West have given their consent and embraced this decision.

“The reason Ogun West has not produced a governor until now is due to a lack of unity. I am pleased to confirm that Hon. Biodun Akinlade and Hon. Gboyega Isiaka are fully aligned with the idea of presenting a single candidate from the district.
“Nothing will give me greater satisfaction than breaking this decades-long jinx and fulfilling the aspirations of our people by ensuring Ogun West produces the next governor of Ogun State.
“On that note, I present to you the flag bearer of our great party—Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola,” he said.
The governor disclosed that extensive consultations were held with party leaders and stakeholders, including a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, before arriving at the decision.
“These discussions have been ongoing for about six months. The President engaged Chief Olusegun Osoba, who in turn consulted with me and others. He expressed satisfaction with our progress in Ogun State and showed interest in who would partner with him in the next election,” Abiodun said.
He added that after evaluating all aspirants based on competence, capacity, and overall suitability, Adeola emerged as the preferred candidate, with due consideration given to the President’s familiarity with each aspirant.
“When asked which zone should produce the next governor, I immediately chose Ogun West because it remains the only district yet to produce one since the state was created. This position also aligns with the views of my predecessors,” he noted.
Abiodun further emphasized that while all aspirants have their strengths, the demands of a governorship race require not only competence but also the financial capacity to run an effective campaign.
He highlighted the growth of the APC in the state over the past seven years, noting that the influx of new members has strengthened the party’s dominance.
While acknowledging the right of every member to aspire to office, the governor urged party faithful to remain united and aligned ahead of the elections, while also adhering strictly to the provisions of the Electoral Act.
