The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) once again demonstrated its commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring road safety, as its operatives intervened in a tragic accident earlier today at the Adeniji Adele Intersection, inward Ilubirin, Lagos Island.
The incident involved a Togolese driver of a Mazda vehicle with registration number EPE 749 GS, who, while driving recklessly at excessive speed, lost control of the car and struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. The violent impact left the victim critically injured and lying in a pool of blood.
In an attempt to evade justice, the driver tried to flee the scene with his vehicle. However, through a swift pursuit and tactical intervention, LASTMA officers successfully apprehended the suspect and immediately handed him over to operatives of the Adeniji Adele Police Division for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.
LASTMA operatives promptly alerted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), whose medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene and rushed the severely injured pedestrian to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where urgent treatment was administered.
Speaking on the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, strongly cautioned motorists against reckless driving, stressing that overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of avoidable road tragedies in Lagos.
He extended his heartfelt sympathy to the victim and wished him a speedy recovery, while reiterating the Authority’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and maintaining order on all transportation corridors across the State.
