The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has imposed sanctions on the South African Football Association (SAFA) following the fielding of an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho.
In line with FIFA’s disciplinary regulations:
- The match has been awarded 3–0 in favour of Lesotho.
- The South African team has been penalized with a three-point deduction.
- SAFA has been fined CHF 10,000 (₦18.8 million).
- Player Teboho Mokoena has been issued an official warning.
This development represents a significant setback for South Africa’s qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
