The Executive Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Alhaji Lawal Adewale Wasiu FCA, has expressed unwavering support for the activities of Lions Clubs International in the Ota Axis. He made this pledge during a courtesy visit by the District Governor of District 404-B4 Nigeria, Lion Engr. Taiwo Oladayo Fatoki, who is on an official visitation to the region.
The visit, which featured the commissioning of two major service projects, was part of the District Governor’s routine tour of clubs and communities within the district.
In her remarks, the Region 7 Chairperson, Lion Queen Tessy Nnadi, explained that the DG’s visitation provides an opportunity to commission club projects, engage with members, and interact with key stakeholders. “The DG cannot possibly visit a community without paying respect to its leadership,” she added.
District Governor Fatoki highlighted the core areas of Lions service, which include sight preservation, diabetes awareness, hunger relief, environmental sustainability, youth development, childhood cancer awareness, and disaster relief. He also noted that Lions Clubs implement legacy projects based on identified community needs. Two such projects were commissioned during the visit; a borehole by Ota Doyen Lions Club at St. Peters Primary School, Ota and a renovated Classroom by Ota Central Lions Club at St. James Nur/Pry School, Osi-Ota
In his response, Chairman Lawal praised the visible and impactful work of Lions Clubs in the local government. He recalled that his predecessor, Engr. Sheriff Musa, had conferred an award on the clubs in recognition of their contributions. He further revealed that he had approved the construction of a Maternity Centre by Ota West Caring Heart Lions Club at Iju Primary Health Centre.
“I have a long-standing relationship with Lions Clubs. One of your founding members, Town Planner Waheed Kadiri, is like a father to me,” he said. “I will continue to support Lions activities in every way I can.”
The DG was accompanied by key leaders from the District, including; Lion Pharm. Debo Afolayan, First Vice District Governor, Lion Oluomo Taiwo Oloyede, District Global Membership Team Coordinator and Lion Asiwaju Abayomi Oke, District Chief of Protocol.
