IHRAAC vehemently condemns the appalling act of banditry that occurred today in Kasai, Batsari Local Government Area (LGA), where 26 innocent civilians, predominantly women and children, were abducted.
This egregious incident underscores the urgent need for immediate action to address the escalating insecurity in the region.
Immediate Call for Action:
1. Urgent Rescue Operation:
IHRAAC urges local and national authorities to deploy an immediate rescue operation to secure the safe release of the abducted civilians. Time is of the essence, and swift action is paramount to prevent further harm and trauma.
2. Enhanced Security Presence:
Immediate deployment of enhanced security measures in Kasai and other vulnerable areas within Batsari LGA to prevent future attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
Recommendations for Long-Term Solutions:
1. Community-Led Security Initiatives:
We call for an Empowerment of local communities through community-led security initiatives, including the establishment of neighborhood watch programs and collaboration with security agencies.
2. Addressing Root Causes:
IHRAAC urge for a Comprehensive efforts to address the root causes of banditry, including socio-economic inequalities, lack of education and employment opportunities, and access to basic services.
3. Interagency Collaboration:
We call for a Strengthening interagency collaboration between law enforcement, military, and intelligence agencies to coordinate efforts and intelligence sharing in combating banditry.
4. International Cooperation:
We urge for a Collaboration with neighboring countries and international partners to address cross-border criminal activities and disrupt the flow of arms and illicit funds fueling insecurity.
Victim Support and Rehabilitation:
1. Comprehensive Victim Support:
IHRAAC uege for a Provision of comprehensive support services, including medical care, trauma counseling, and reintegration assistance for abducted civilians and their families.
2. Protection of Vulnerable Groups:
IHRAAC urge for a Special attention and protection for vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, who are disproportionately affected by banditry and abduction incidents.
Stern Warning to Perpetrators:
IHRAAC issues a stern warning to the perpetrators behind the heinous act in Kasai and Entire region with violence, emphasizing that their actions will not go unpunished. The organization calls for swift and decisive action to identify and hold those responsible accountable for their crimes.
