In a bid to amicably resolve the longstanding boundary disputes that have been a source of contention between the two Local Government areas, Legislators of Ado Odo Ota and Ifo Local Government areas held a laudable session at the hallow chamber of Ifo local government which marked a significant milestone in local governance and inter-legislative cooperation.
While welcoming the legislators of Ado Odo Ota Local Government, the Executive Chairman of Ifo local government Chief Mrs. Kikelomo Delano in her heartfelt address commended both parties for their willingness to engage in a meaningful dialogue and expressed her hope for a fruitful resolution that would reflect the collective aspirations of the people.
The Leader of the House Ifo local government Hon. Adeleye Adekunle Olanrewaju expressed his profound gratitude to Almighty God for the collaborative effort of both legislative houses on the boundary disputes that has been affecting both local government areas. In his words “this joint sitting is a testament of our dedication to governance and community service, as we move forward, it is imperative that we establish a robust oversight function to monitor and manage the boundaries affected by this resolution. It is through vigilant oversight that we can ensure that the terms of our agreement are honored and the well-being of our communities is safeguarded.” The Leader’s call to action highlighted the importance of continued diligence and cooperation in the aftermath of the joint resolution.
During the historic joint sitting, the Leader of the House of Ado Odo Ota legislative council Hon. Mrs. Bukola Balogun Omosowon took a moment to elucidate the primary impetus for the unprecedented assembly. In his words, “Today marks a defining moment in the history of our local governance, we are here, united not by mere circumstance, but by a shared commitment to resolve the boundary disputes that have long stood as barriers to our collective progress. This joint sitting is not just a procedural formality; it is a deliberate act to bridge our differences, to ensure that the voices of our communities were heard and to reach a resolution that serves the greater good of all our constituents".
In a significant move during the joint sitting, Councilors representing the Wards directly affected by the boundary disputes were granted special audience by the legislators. The disputed areas are Ijoko, Ilogbo and Sango area. Hon. Adedokun Adeoye from Ilogbo Ward firmly asserted his claims over the disputed area, advocating for a resolution that acknowledges the historical and communal rights of his constituents. While Hon. Adekunle Isreal from Coker Ward also presented his claims emphasizing the significance of the disputed area to his ward and seeking a resolution that respects the local heritage and interests.
This inclusive approach ensured that the voices and concerns of the affected communities were heard. The Councilors presented their perspectives and insights, which were instrumental in guiding the deliberations towards a fair and mutual beneficial resolution.
