Rivers assembly demolished
The Rivers State Government under Governor Siminalayi Fubara has begun the demolition of the State House of Assembly building on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, for reconstruction.
Bulldozers arrived at the Complex around 6am on Wednesday, December 12, 2023, and commenced the demolition exercise
A government source said the project was being undertaken by the state government.
This was coming some weeks after the hallowed chambers of the state assembly was burned down by unknown political thugs.
It should be recalled that the legislative arm of the state has been involved in a serious crisis following the move by some lawmakers to Fubara.
Meanwhile, Fubara has presented the 2024 budget estimates to Edison Ehie-led group at the Government House the same moment the demolition was carried out.
The Ehie group was recognised by the court as the Speaker of the House.
The presentation of the budget was held at a hall in the Government House, apparently, due to the “renovation” work at the state assembly complex which started Wednesday morning.
