Two men have been rescued from a violent mob attack in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, after they were accused of engaging in homosexual activity.
The individuals, identified as Shobola Yusuf Lekan and Shobowale Kudus, were reportedly discovered in the washroom at a local club. Witnesses said the confrontation escalated when bystanders assaulted the men, stripped them, and attempted to set them on fire.
Their rescue came through the prompt intervention of operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Nigerian Police Force, who dispersed the crowd and moved the victims to the Itori Divisional Headquarters for safety and ongoing investigation.
While some residents voiced disapproval based on personal and religious grounds, police authorities reiterated that mob action is unlawful and warned that such behavior would not be tolerated.
Police further confirmed that the case is under investigation and emphasized that any charges will be pursued strictly in accordance with Nigerian law and due process.
