NSE Ota Branch To Partners With TRACE In Promoting Safe Road Usage |Omohglobalnews

Members of Ota Branch of Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) have solicited partnership with the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) as part of efforts to promote safe road usage.

The members, led by its chairman, Engr George Adeyemi, made the request during a visit to the Ogun West Command of TRACE in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

He lauded TRACE efforts in ensuring safe driving, checking recklessness among drivers and other road users.

Engr Adeyemi, therefore, declared the readiness of the group to partner with TRACE and other traffic management in ensuring maximum reduction of road traffic impunity in the state.

 


“Our collaboration with professional road traffic managers would further bring the much needed results as it will give room for much laudable knowledge and ideas that can as well enable motorists and other road users observed the use of road signage with safety messages which would definitely help to raise awareness on safe road practices,” he said.

Responding, Ogun West Area Commander, Cdr Adekunle Ajibade, on behalf of the Corps Commander/Chief Executive Officer, Cdr Abdulfatai Olaseni Ogunyemi, thanked the group of engineers for the visitation and re-emphasised the importance of safety on the roads to check accidents particularly within the metropolis.


He pointed out some obstacles and major challenges confronting the agency’s personnel while on the road and pledged to partner with relevant organisations or group of associations at all times to curb road crashes in the state.


Cdr Ajibade urged the group to join hands with the road traffic management in educating the motoring public and other road users, the benefit of obeying rules and regulations while making use of the roads.

He highlighted major causes of road traffic crashes to be route violation, popularly known as one-way driving, impatient, aggressiveness, drunk driving, overloading, excessive speed and driving mechanical imbalance vehicles on the road.

He pledged the TRACE commitment in continuous public enlightenment and other activities that would enable it achieve its common goal and improve road safety practices in the state.

“We will soon commence safety advocacy on motor parks, okada rider’s garages, markets, religious homes and schools in a bid to stop unsafe practices and ensuring safety on the road as ember months are fast approaching,” Cdr Ajibade, added.

In the meeting were: NSE Ota Branch’s Vice Chairman, Engr (Dr) Edith Alagbe; Secretary, Oluwaji Olalekan; an NSE member, Esthella Ekong; TRACE Deputy Area Commander, Cdr Tayo Rinaye, Area Command’s Head of Operations, Ahmed Salau and Gbenga Adebayo.
