TRACE Warns Motorists Against Route Violation On Tollgate, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway |Omohglobalnews



The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, on Friday warned motorists against route violation popularly known as One-Way Driving, especially at OtaTollgate-Ilo-Awela on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

Speaking in an interview with Thecaveat.net, the TRACE Corps Commander/CEO, 'Seni Ogunyemi, said this is necessary to ensure accident free on roads, in  the state. 

 Lamenting the high rate of road accidents attributed to one-way driving, Ogunyemi said this is often caused by excessive speed and driving under the influence of alcohol/substances.

He said a lot of men and women, young and old, have been killed or maimed by motorists moving against the traffic, adding that the offence of driving against the traffic is more common when there is heavy traffic or bad portion of the road, errant and disobedient drivers or riders, prompted by impatience suddly illegally divert to the lane of another oncoming vehicles.

The traffic management expert, noted that a prompt action need to be taking most especially on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway as the highway is becoming a danger and accident prone to mostly the pedestrians as many have been victims of hit-and-run by route violation drivers.

“It is madness for someone to be driving against traffic. The state traffic code has prescribed a psychiatry test, prosecution and a stipulated fine for anyone that commits this offence. Therefore, TRACE would never be taking it politely with whoever is caught with this indiscipline.”

Cdr Ogunyemi, also stressed the warnings to commercial transporters, tricyclists and okada riders who derived joy in obstructing the road while picking or dropping passengers, saying TRACE would continue to have zero tolerance for lawlessness on the road.

He also cautioned traders against obstructing the road with goods or wares, saying it really an offence for someone to display goods or wares on the walkways which meant for the pedestrians.

“Trading along the road is not permitted by law. Those, who continue trading along the road are creating serious security risk to themselves. Traders should stay off the road behind the walkways to create freeway, movement and to enhance safety should a vehicle fails break,” Cdr Ogunyemi, added.
