Vice Chancellor, Covenant (CU) Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo has declared that covenant university will continue playing it's role in corporate social responsibility.
Prof. Adebayo made this declaration during the commissioning of Iju, Ota renovated health centre last Saturday, May 20,2023. Speaking further, the Vice Chancellor said the importance of quality health care cannot be over emphasised, adding that, such an exercise would improve quality of lives, control disease outbreak and prevention of self medication.
In her welcome address, the chairman, Community Development Impact Initiative Committee (CDIIC) of covenant university, Prof. Tayo George said that the university has made history by reaching out to Iju OtA community with the renovation of its health centre.
According to her the renovation is in honour of the Chancellor wife, Pastor (Mrs) Faith Oyedepo as a mark of her birthday.
She stated further that the initiative was taken last year in collaboration with Ado Odo Ota Local government boss, Hon. Sheriff Musa, adding that, Iju Ota health centre is not the first outreach the varsity will implement citing examples of Nov 2019, when there were screening and free medication to members of the community, also in February 2023 when the varsity donated various items including liquid soap, Izal and hand-wash to the health centre. List of items donated and gifted to various community recently include; installation of transformers, generators, donation of text books to public schools, drilling of boreholes, seminars and workshop, donation of laboratory equipments and purchase of Hilux vehicles to law enforcement agencies to mention just a few.
In his own address, Ado Odo Ota Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Sheriff Musa described what covenant university has done as very unquantifiable, saying that it is life savings.
The Bale of Iju Ọjà, Bale Nojeem Alágbè expressed his gratitude to the varsity Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo for his timely help anytime he is called upon, saying that the bridge he constructed over iju river had stopped incessant accidents in the area.
Other speakers at the occasion include Borokin of Awori and Ẹ̀gbá land Dr Shotayo who claimed to have been born at the health centre, admonished the varsity to give scholarship awards to indigenes.
