Senator GOS Commissions Remodelled AMU Plank Markets 3 YEARS After Inferno|Omohglobalnews

 

Three years after the inferno which left over 150 shops burnt at the Amu Plank in Mushin, the traders in partnership with Mushin Local Government Authorities have put up a newly constructed state of the art model market to enhance more business transactions in the plank and building materials market in the Lagos State.


Commissioning the newly remodelled two blocks on one storey building each with 120 lock - up shops and two lines of 99 key clamp shops, the Apex Leader of Mushin/Olowo and member of Governors Advisory Council, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, who represented the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo - Olu, thanked both the governor and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for their support throughout the trying period and approval given for the reconstruction of the market. He commended the Governor for keeping to his promise with the traders despite pressure from various quartets.

He also commended the traders and management of Mushin Local Government for their patience, cooperation and perseverance in ensuring that the market was finally reconstructed to modern standard.

He however advised that safety measures be put in place to prevent reoccurrence of the inferno which erupted at the market in the night of 24th to the early hours of 25th January, 2020, which destroyed goods worth hundreds on millions of naira.

In his opening speech before the commissioning, the Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, expressed his happiness and thanked God that the Senator who conducted the foundation laying ceremony of the newly constructed market, is alive to commission it with the aged Baba Oja and all the leaders in the market.

The chairman gave an account of how he received the news of the incident with the inspection conducted by the Governor with his deputy and Senator Ganiyu Solomon, on the day the market was razed down by fire. 

Hon. Bamigboye used the opportunity to thank the traders and their unions for all the efforts made to revalidate and re-register to reclaim their permanent voters cards which got burnt in the inferno. He thanked them for the support given to the All progressives Congress and its candidates in Mushin, during the just concluded general elections.


The council boss thanked all those who contributed to the success of the reconstructed market. He expressed appreciation the the Governor, Deputy Governor, ministry of physical planning,  Council management and leadership of the market, for their patience and cooperation with the government. He mentioned some of the projects which have been completed and due for commissioning and the ongoing low cost housing project which is the first of its kind to be executed by any local government authority in the State.

While giving his votes of thanks, Alhaji Tajudeen Sanni, the mouth piece of the youth and market leaders, thanked the government both at the state and local levels, for their support in ensuring that the market was not hijacked from them. He commended Senator Ganiyu Solomon and the Executive Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Banigboye who took up their matter before the Deputy Governor for approval from his Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo - Olu, to secure the market and gave approval for the reconstruction to commence without disturbance from any quarters.

Alhaji Sanni, who confirmed that the new remodelled market has 4 entrance and exit points, with 28 toilets, and a mosque, appealed on behalf of the traders for the rehabilitation of Amu market road. He also promised to put security in place and other safety measures for the traders and their goods.

The distinguished Senator was conducted round the market to inspect the newly constructed facilities with the council chairman in company of Engr. Alaba Sholabi (Board Member, Lagos State Polytechnic now University of Science and Technology) and other dignitaries at the commissioning

The event also had dignitaries across Mushin, including Vice Chairman - Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, House Leader - Hon. Olamide Williams, Secretary to the Local Government - Mrs. Olubunmi Gbadamosi, Council manager - Comrade Sogo Osikoya, Councillors, Supervisors, Market Mistress - Mrs. Ramat Lawal, Heads of various department in the council, Market Coordinator (Mushin & Odi Olowo) - Alhaja Taibat Borokini, Babaloja General of Mushin, Baba Oja of Amu Market - Alhaji Jimoh Olowoidiobi, community leaders and members of the public.
