The Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, has ordered the reopening of Itire Abattoir, after its closure on Friday 14th April, following their refusal to honour invitations from the local authority against allegations of environmental default and failure to remit obligatory fees accrued to the government.
During a meeting held at the council secretariat between the management of Mushin Local Government, Lagos State Butchers Association, Concessionaire of Abattoirs in Mushin, the council chairman briefed the parties in attendance that the market was locked down following reports of poor and unhealthy sanitation in the abattoir from the committee on Environmental Sanitation under the supervision of the Vice Chairman - Hon. Tunbodun Aruwe and complaints from the Council Auditors on refusal by the butchers association to remit their obligatory dues to the council since January 2023.
Speaking on behalf of the butchers, the State Chairman of Lagos State Butchers Association, Mr. Alabi Bamidele Kazeem, apologised for the failure of his members to honour the invitation of the council to defend the various allegations levelled against. He however complained to the chairman on the bill being paid to the concessionaire introduced by the state government through the Ministry of Agriculture as the reason for their failure to perform their obligations to the local government.
While addressing the stakeholders at the meeting, the Executive Chairman enlightened the butchers association and the concessionaire - Alhaji Yahya Idris, that; the Local Government has the statutory right over all the markets in Mushin and should not be deprived of its rightful dues. He advised the new concessionaire to liaise with the revenue team of the council and work out modalities for smooth operations that will facilitate mutual understanding among the three parties.
After much deliberations and apologies tendered, the State chairman of the butchers, agreed to pay up the outstanding debts owed by his members at the Itire Odo Eran Market from January to April.
At the meeting, the Board of Trustee chairman of the Butchers Association, Baba Awofe, Market Coordinator of Mushin and Odi Olowo- Alhaji Taibat Borokini and other market leaders around Mushin, pleaded on behalf of the butchers and assured the chairman of total compliance with the council directives.
Also at the meeting with the chairman and his vice were; House Leader - Hon. Olamide Williams, Secretary to the Local Government - Mrs. Olubunmi Gbadamosi, Area Commander of Area D police Command - ACP Ibrahim Chika, Councillors, Supervisors, Members of Odo Eran Market Butchers Association, staff of Environments department, Market Mistress and staff of Market department, with other stakeholders in the market.
