Lagos Arraigns Medical Doctor For Involuntary Manslaughter

By Yetunde Ayobami Ojo

Lagos State government, yesterday, arraigned a medical doctor, Oyeyinka Oyetunde, before a Special Offences Court, Ikeja, for alleged involuntary manslaughter of a patient.

Oyetunde was arraigned on a count charge of manslaughter.

The state counsel, Ms. Tolu Esan told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 16,  2020 at No1, Ajibade Oke Street Isolo, by failing to administer care on a certain O. Uchenna, who is  now deceased.

The offence was contrary to Section 229 of the Criminal Law Lagos State 2015.

Upon his arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. But Oyetunde’s counsel, Mr. Abayomi Omotunbora, in his  bail application, prayed the court to allow his client to continue on the bail granted him by Chief Magistrate G.O. Abayomi of  Ebute Metta Magistrate’s court.

The trial judge, Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe, granted the request, noting that the defendant is not a flight risk going by his antecedents.

The court allowed him to continue on his bail, with a condition that he provides the evidence, for which he was granted bail, not later than seven days from the day he was arraigned.

The judge subsequently adjourned to December 19, 2022, for trial.
