TRACE ADMONISHES RIDERS ON SAFETY

Area 4 command of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), has said road users should adhere strictly to traffic rules which in no doubt will reduce  road traffic crashes to barest minimum if not eradicate completely.

The  Area 4 Commander, Cdr Adekunle Ariyo Ajibade  represented by Cdr Ojo Temitayo, made this statement while  addressing okada riders at a road traffic enlightenment campaign organised by LiveSpot in partnership with Nestle Nigeria Plc,  at Oju-Ore Ota.

Ajibade added that  Ado-Odo/Ota local government is vunerable on  road crashes saying there is need to avoid carnages through total obedience to traffic rules.

Addressing both the motorcycle and 'Keke Marwa' riders, Ajibade added that   riders are more likely to die in any crash than drivers or passengers in cars adding that motorcyclists should always ensure safety at all times.

"Motorcycle riders are riding contrary to traffic regulations, forgetting that lives have no duplicate, all okada riders are always expected to go within specified driving limits, wear crash helmet, avoid wrongful overtaking and very necessary to ride with retro-reflective jacket especially at night.

“It is highly necessary for okada riders to stop the idea of competing with vehicles or riding between two vehicles while on the road. Riding a power bike doesn’t make anyone immune to traffic laws, especially when it has to do with riding against traffic popularly refers to as ‘one-way’ which is highly dangerous to road users and even pedestrians", he said.

The commander warned that anyone caught violating the state traffic laws will face the wrath of law enjoining all stakeholders to be kept abreast safety on our roads to avoid carnages.

The programme had in attendance of all transport stakeholders, Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies.
